Great articles and writing on here, Perry. I'm in the process of compiling a collection of quotes for a project I'm working on, and I'd like to know if you could confirm all the quotes you've published here are from original sources you've seen or heard, whether from audio or video interviews. I tried Googling a number of them and couldn't find the original sources. Thanks a bunch!
Hi Suzana, appreciate the kind words! Yes, every quote included in these posts are from documented audio, video or written sources. I have detailed attribution for each if you're interested. What kind of project are you working on?
Awesome. Great to know. A personal Facebook post and blog post to start, possibly followed by a YouTube video. They are related to the upcoming Sam Mendes Beatles biopics as a little tribute on my part. Many of the written quotes here are just what I need to start with. No need for the attributions for now. Thanks so much. (sorry for the duplicate post above - I'm new to Substack)
Sounds like a cool project :) ...the blog and youtube ideas sound especially interesting so feel free to post back with links to whatever you produce. And good luck here on Substack!
Just discovered your thing here. Some of the most intelligent and thought provoking writing I have encountered about the Beatles-- and I've read a LOT of it! As the man said, I'll be back.
One more element: they were an antidote for the horrors and destruction that came to us daily on the news from Vietnam; we needed something joyous… something good to listen to, see.... and to believe in.
Wonderfully put Joel. Another reminder of how the passage of time inevitably erodes important context from what we think we know of our cultural history...

Thanks for the kind words Gerald! Means a lot coming from a discerning Beatle Reader. Stay tuned - more on the way... :-)

The Beatles were as much a gift at the time of war as Cole Porter and Fats Waller were a gift during the depression… Anything goes.
Well played :)
